Read more ... » since it is a “touch” oriented operating system.  However, if a touch screen is not an option for you and there is a definite need to use your existing mouse and keyboard then these Windows 8 essential shortcuts are for you to make the functions you were used to using in prior Windows versions to appear.  You will be able to work faster and more efficiently if you know and master these essential shortcuts for Windows 8 no matter the type of Windows 8 PC you own or use.

Essential Shortcuts List:

  1. Windows logo Key + . (period key): Docks the current Windows 8-style application to the right or left, depending on how many times you hit it.
  2. Windows logo Key +Number Key (1-9): Switch to desktop mode and make the Nth application on the task bar active where N is the number key you hit and 1 is the furthest taskbar icon to the left.
  3. Windows logo Key + Tab: Brings up the Task Switcher and toggles between Windows 8-style apps.
